Dr. Burke is a recipient of the prestigious, "Order of the Long Leaf Pine." Bestowed by the Governor of North Carolina, this honor is awarded to persons for exemplary service to the State of North Carolina and communities that is above and beyond the call of duty, and has made a significant impact and strengthened North Carolina.

In 2011, Dr. Burke was awarded an Honorary Lifetime Membership in the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.

Dr. Burke is the past Editor of the Journal of Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics

Dr. Burke served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology and is a member of the Performance Enhancment/Intervention committee in AAASP.

Dr. Burke has been selected to attend the Tennessee Regents Academic Leadership Training Institute.

Dr. Burke has been nominated for the University award for scholarship/research on several occasions. 

In three separate academic years, Dr. Burke was nominated for the University award for teaching.

Dr. Burke received the College award for teaching. 

Dr. Burke received the College award for scholarship/research.

He has presented and published through local, state, regional, national, and international channels.

Dr. Burke has been nominated for the prestigious "Dorothy V. Harris Young Scholar/Practitioner" award, selected for leadership training, and previously won an award for teaching while in graduate school.
